PAs a junior doctor, working under Dr. Paul Aichroth at London’s Westminster Hospital, Dr. Boerger was so inspired by the life changing benefits of hip and knee surgery, and how patients were able to return to pain-free mobility, that he knew that was to be his specialism.

Dr Boerger qualified from the Free University of Berlin in 1990. He gained his medical doctorate through a basic research thesis in 1992 and moved to London the same year. After basic surgical training and well-published orthopaedic research work, he gained access to specialist trauma orthopaedic training at North West Thames / Imperial College, London.
Dr. Boerger completed his subspeciality orthopaedic fellowship training in Hip and Knee Replacement and Soft Tissue/Ligament Reconstruction in Florence, Italy, Canberra, and Sydney, Australia.
In 2006 Mr Thomas Boerger was appointed substantive Consultant Hip and Knee surgeon at St Bernard’s Hospital, Gibraltar. He has despite institutional adversity developed the orthopaedic department into a modern and successful unit. His reputation for excellence is recognised throughout Gibraltar and Southern Spain.
He has subsequently developed his private operative practice at HC International Hospital, Marbella where he treats patients from Gibraltar, Southern Spain and elsewhere.
Mr Thomas Boerger has introduced accelerated recovery after hip and knee surgery. This means that his hip and knee replacement patients regularly get up on the day of surgery; his ACL reconstruction patients go home on the day of surgery. Mr Boerger has considerable experience in bilateral partial knee replacement surgery.
