Fernando has been suffering pain in his left leg for some years, progressing to his hip. The hip pain became so bad that even with a walking stick, he was not able to be mobile. Imaging identified that he required a full hip replacement.
‘Things went really badly, and I just could walk without a lot of pain. Before surgery, my mobility was travel. Before I used to enjoy walking and I loved cycling’, explains Fernando.
He continues, ‘But luckily I met Dr. Thomas Boerger, and the good doctor saved the day!
After the operation I was sore of course from the surgery, but it was a different kind of pain, just from the incision healing. The pain of the hip, the intense joint pain was gone!
Day by day after the procedure, I was getting better and better. I was getting stronger.
I had regular physiotherapy too which helped me recover my strength. Before the hip replacement my left leg had become weak as I couldn’t use it. I lost muscle and the leg was thinner than my right leg.
After the surgery, and physio, over the last few months my left leg has regained its strength and they are the same now. I can regularly walk, building up strength and now I am back on my bicycle!
I love riding and now I can head out and enjoy trails in the countryside – taking in trips of up to 40, 50 and 60 kilometres!
I’m a really happy man! I am so grateful that Dr. Boerger was able to help me. I definitely recommend him as a surgeon. He must be one of the best in Europe!
